Alto Marcala Group consist of families that come from a long tradition of coffee growers, where some of the farms have been passed down for generations. It is our objective to offer our coffee directly to customers to preserve the quality and integrity of the product. The Alto Marcala Group of families share the same values: commitment to quality, responsible pre and post harvest practices, fair treatment to the people that work iin our fileds, family participation, care for the land, and integral farm management.

Marcala, Honduras
The best region to grow coffee in the country.
Located in one of the six coffee producing regions in Honduras, Marcala is a small town with little over 30,000 people, founded in 1834 by the native people that lived in there prior the arrival of the conquistadores. It receives an annual precipitation of 1545 mm of rain. The average temperature is around 25 degree celcius, perfect for coffee !
Our way of life
Located deep in the mountains at altitudes that vary from 1240-1650 meters above sea level, our coffee develops and matures slowly to produce the finest tasting coffee in Central America. The cup taste profile is so special that once you try it, we are sure you will love it as much as we do.

The farms that form our family.
We believe in continuous training and learning, so we have been applying modern practices and techniques that result in better plant management and yields. It is our mission to produce the best coffee possible, so we only focus on specialty coffee.
Farm Profiles
Our smallest farm is 2.4 hectares located at 1250 meters above sea level. Varieties grown are Lempira, Parainema, and Bourbon. This farm has been owned by the same family for four generations.
Our highest farm located at an altitude of 1600 meters above sea level. It currently has 18,000 plants on full production in an area of 4.2 hectares. The variety grown here is the famous Gesha.
Our oldest farm, it has been producing coffee for over 100 years. It has a surface area of 6.3 hectares and it is located at 1240 meters above sea level. The varities cultivated are Catuai, Bourbon, Tipica, Pacamara.
In this farm, the first coffee tree was planted in 1985. It consists of 63,000 coffee trees, 13 hectares situated in between 1340 and 1425 meters above sea level. The varieties cultivated here are catuai, pacas, pache and parainema.
Located in the municipality of Chinacla at 1257 meters above sea level, we are growing Catuai and Lempira varieties. With a total area of 3 hectares, this coffe is shade grown under Gravileo trees which is the main tree that grows in the region.
This is one of the oldest farms in Marcala. Nowadays, the variety grown is red catuai with an extraordinary cup profile that features a fruity, caramel, and honey flavor . The coffee trees are surrounded by citrus, banana and wood producing trees.
Finca La Alemana, coming in 2025
The newest addition to our family is Finca La Alemana. We are taking all the acquired knowledge through decades of hard work, and we are applying them to this farm. Along with its own microclimate, altitude, pristine water supply and soil characteristics, this farm is poised to become the crown jewel of our family. It will take three years before the trees start producing coffee at all. In the picture you can see our first germinated seeds.

Marcala Coffee flavour profile has fruity and sweet fragances, lively and bright acidity level, with a peach and orange flavour that results in a vibrant drink with an invigorating aftertaste and velvet body. Due to its unique characteristics, in 2005 the Marcala Region was the first in Central America and 4th worldwide to be protected with a Denomination of Origin designation to guarantee the quality and thus benefit both the consumer and the producer. Coffee produced in Marcala earned in 2009 3rd place in France (VPA), 2010 3rd place worlwide (SCAA), 2011 top 10 in the world Roasters Guild (CRG) Peoples Choice award.
